Accessories; caps; helmets; with internal handle or grip.-Helmets and other head-gear are provided with an internal grip handle or strap and an external dagger or shield. The handle may be an ordinary leather handle, or a metal handle which can be fashioned like a knuckle-duster, or even a simple strap or strip of webbing. As shown in section in Fig. 2, the helmet is provided with an internal leather handle g attached by links h to an anchor plate e, into which at the centre is screwed the enlarged end b of a dagger a. A screw f may be used to lock the dagger in position. A spring catch k is provided to retain a scabbard in position over the dagger when required. When the dagger is mounted upon a cap, as shown in Fig. 4, it is hinged in lugs l on a plate b, and is provided with a sliding sleeve m, which, when the dagger is raised, passes over the lugs, while a spring n on the sleeve engages a hook o on the plate b. The dagger may be omitted, the outer plate b being extended to form a shield for use when the helmet &c. is held by the internal grip in front of the body. This form is stated to be particularly useful for policemen or firemen as a knuckle-duster or hammer. According to the Provisional Specification 6562/16 the dagger may be removable.
