Abstract

1,031,922. Transformers. TUBE PRODUCTS Ltd. Nov. 20, 1963 [Nov. 27, 1962], No. 44761/62. Heading H1T. A rotary transformer for the continuous welding of tubes and consisting of a single turn secondary 10 and axially spaced circular welding electrodes 16, 17 comprises conductors in the form of concentric sleeves 22, 23 which connect the secondary to the electrodes and which have interleaving, longitudinally extending ribs or flutes 24, 26 (Fig. 5) arranged in such a way that the adjacent surfaces of adjacent ribs are substantially parallel and are spaced from each other. The sleeves which pass through a throat 15 mounted by a roller bearing 18 in a housing 19 are held in accurate concentricity by fittings at their ends and sufficient clearance is provided between the sleeves for the passage of oil for cooling purposes. The secondary 10 is mounted on and insulated from a rotatable shaft 11 and the primary winding which is wound on the core 12 of the transformer is fed with current from slip rings 13, 14.
