Abstract
1473514 Transformers HEURTEY METALLURGIE 1 May 1974 [2 May 1973] 19194/74 Heading HIT A transformer comprises three or more windings each formed from metal foil (e.g. copper foil, 0À05 mm thick). As described the windings surround each other, the inner winding S (referred to as a secondary) having a thickened inner turn (1 to 2 mm thick), which functions as a mandrel and may also form part of a fluid cooling arrangement, the intermediate winding P (referred to as a primary) having a thickened outer turn (at least 2 mm thick and possibly of a different metal), said to reduce corona discharge, and the outer winding P<SP>1</SP> (referred to as an auxiliary primary) being wound in the opposite sense to, and having substantially the same number of turns as, the winding P. Adjacent turns are separated by PTFE insulation. In a modification, a fourth winding (S<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 7, not shown) (referred to as an auxiliary secondary), is provided. The windings may be interconnected as in Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown), or the winding P<SP>1</SP> may be left floating, in which case a potential gradient is developed along it to progressively reduce the value of the high voltage V 2 to the value zero.
