Abstract
1,031,813. Transformers. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Nov. 7, 1962 [Nov. 10, 1961], No. 40374/61. Heading H1T. An on-load transformer tap changer has a reactor 12 with a tapping or one end connected to the transformer winding (at point 11) and one end connected to at least one tap selector 20 through a series of switches 22, 23, one switch having a resistor 28 connected across it. A tap selector 20, 21 may be connected to each end 26, 27 of the reactor via a series of switches 22, 23 and 24, 25, the switches in each series being immersed in oil and mechanically connected to operate together, and a resistor 28, 31 having a value of the order of five times the ohmic reactor impedance being connected as shown. The selectors, which may be immersed in oil, may engage any of the taps 13 to 19, any change in position of a selector being made only when its corresponding switches are open. The resistors assist in the interruption of switching arcs.
