Abstract
A bituminous composition comprises, by weight, 15-80% sulphurized propane precipitated asphalt (PPA); 10-60% aromatic extract from lubricating oil feedstock; and 10-70% crude petroleum vacuum distillation residue. The composition, which is suitable for use as a road-surfacing binder, preferably has penetration 20-350 mm./10 at 25 DEG C.; the residue also preferably has this penetration. The penetration of the composition is less susceptible to temperature change than the penetration of the residue. An acidic composition may be prepared by adding to the above composition 0.2-1.0% of a naphthenic acid fraction.
