Abstract
514,692. Bituminous compositions. DODD, A. H., and WEST, H. E. G. May 11, 1938, No. 14075. [Class 22] Coal dust or pitch dust is heated under pressure with a digesting oil, which consists-of a solvent and a peptizing agent, until the dust has been transformed into a bitumen-like product, a part of the digesting oil removed, as by distillation, and the product, which is liquid when hot, admixed with coal tar, or pitch or fluxed tar. A fluxing oil may be added to'the mixture before removal or before digestion, in which case all the volatile digesting oil may be removed. As solvents in the digesting oils may be used naphtha, light creosote, benzene, toluene, petroleum spirit, gas oil, or naphthalene and as peptizing agents, cresylic acid, carbolic acid, pyridine, acetone or decahydronaphthalene. Light oils which contain both solvents and peptizing agents may be used.
