Abstract
1,031,555. Making contacts. AMP Inc. April 20, 1965 [April 24, 1964], No. 16464/65. Heading B3A. [Also in Division H2] An electrical contact is formed in two parts, the outer part from sheet metal, and the inner part 40 from solid stock. The inner part has a tapering bore to receive a mating contact of frusto-conical form, and is coated along its outer surface with tin solder 35 and fluxed. The part 40 is inserted into the outer part and indentations are formed in the outer part to engage recesses 48 to hold the two parts against longitudinal relative movement. The assembly is then heated in a tank of an inert medium at approximately 500 F. for about 5 minutes. The tin solder flows between the inner and outer parts. The assembly is cooled in a suitable solvent to remove excess of the inert medium. The contact may then be given a coating of nickel followed by a surface plating of gold.
