Abstract

The male and female electrode pair for electrical connectors. The electrodes require minimal insertion force to ensure connection the design being based on the two phases of contact as the electrodes are brought together. The design makes max. use of the coupling mechanism within the limits allowed by mfrg. tolerances. The male electrode consists of a cylinder (10) tapering from a shoulder (21) having a radius of curvature (d2) equal to its dia. (D), the length (L0) of the tapered section being between 2 and 3.5 times its dia. The taper is terminated as an approx. hemisphere (19) having a dia (d1) which is roughly that of the narrowest contact section (d0) of the female electrode. The length of the flared and sprung lead - in section of the female electrode is between 0.6 and 0.8 times the length of the male taper (L0).
