1,030,336. Rack railway locomotives; lookout devices. LEIPZIGER STAHLBAU UND VERZINKEREI VEB. Aug. 2, 1963, No. 30790/63. Headings B7H and B7J. [Also in Division E1] A traction device has wheels 5, 6 arranged to run on railways track 1a and gear-wheels 7, 8 driven by diesel-hydraulic or electro-hydraulic drive means at each end engaging a rack between the track rails. A drawbar 9 and counterweight 12 are provided at the opposite ends of the device. In an alternative construction, Fig. 4 (not shown), without a counterweight, gear-wheels 7a, 8a are mounted directly on the drive means 4 with elastic members in their drive. Horizontal sections of the track are joined by a sloping section 1a, a gap being left between horizontal sections 2c, 2d of the rack of a shorter length than the distance between the axes of the gear-wheels 7, 8. Each traction device carries two cross-wires and a lamp or other light source and by aligning the cross-wires on one device with the light source on a second device side by side parallel relationship of the two devices is maintained.
