Abstract
A ferroelectric ceramic composition comprises a solid solution of lead zirconate and lead titanate in the mol ratio of 60: 40 to 35: 65 with 0.1-10 atom per cent of lead replaced by magnesium. The composition may also contain chromium equivalent to 0.1-1.5 wt. per cent of Cr2O3 and iron equivalent to 0.1-1.0 wt. per cent of Fe2O3. A further 1-10 atom per cent of the lead may be replaced by strontium, barium or calcium. The composition may be prepared by mixing the constituent oxides or precursors thereof, grinding, sintering at about 850 DEG C. for about 2 hours, re-grinding, mixing with a solution of sorbitol or polyvinyl alcohol or a paraffin emulsion, pressing into discs and firing at about 1285 DEG C. for 45 minutes.
