Abstract
1,030,166. Multi-colour xerographic printing. RESEARCH LABORATORIES OF AUSTRALIA Ltd. Nov. 22, 1962 [Dec. 28, 1961], No. 44227/62. Heading G2H. In xerographic colour printing involving different colour images successively deposited on a photoconductive surface, the first image is developed with a developer comprising an electrically insulating carrier liquid having separately suspended therein a pigment of the appropriate colour and an electrically insulating bonding medium present in excess of the quantity required to coat the pigment so that such excess is co-deposited with the pigment to provide a coloured image deposit covered by a layer of bonding medium which is capable of accepting a uniform electrostatic charge and does not destroy the photoconductive properties of the surface. The surface is then exposed to the next colour image and the process is repeated. The bonding medium may be a natural or synthetic resin and the carrier liquid in each successive developer is preferably a poorer solvent for the deposited bonding medium than that in the preceding developer. There may be four colour images, e.g. blue, red, black and yellow. In the examples the bonding medium is a long oil alkyl resin and the carrier liquid is a 58 to 140‹C petroleum fraction containing 10% aromatics.
