Abstract

984,965. Electrophotographic processes. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Feb. 6, 1962 [Feb. 16, 1961],No. 4604/62. Heading G2H. [Also in Division H1] A supported or self-supported photoconductive layer for electrophotography is made from a composition containing an organic resinous material in which is dissolved a substituted di- or triphenyl methane or a substitute benzophenone. The nature of the substituents is specified in a general formulae for the additive. In one method of use the material is charged with a negative corona, exposed using a tungsten source, and developed by being immersed in a liquid developer consisting of pigmented thermoplastic particles dispensed in a mixture of silicone oil and trichlorotrifluoroethene. Alternatively the material may be exposed prior to charging and non-fusible toners may be used since on heating they sink into the resin surface. To reproduce a coloured master separate colour images are formed and developed sequentially on the same material. Fixing may take place after all the images have been developed or, since these materials when self-supported or where supported by glass or metal substrates have good thermal dimensional stability, fixing may take place after each development step. In a second method a plurality of self-supporting films are used (made for example of bis-(4-dimethyl amino-phenyl)-phenyl-methane dissolved in a copolymer of vinyl chloride). Separate images are formed on different films (for example, corresponding to red, blue, and yellow images) and developed and fixed. Specification 807,798 and U.S.A. Specification 2,874,063 are referred to.
