Abstract

1,029,108. Hydrofoil craft. SUPERMARIN A.B. March 2, 1965 [March 3, 1964], No. 8882/65. Heading B7A. A hydrofoil craft comprises a hydrofoil 4, Fig. 1 (not shown) substantially at and preferably slightly behind, the centre of gravity of the boat, a planing foil 6, Fig. 2 (not shown), secured to the fore part of the hull 1 by means of a joint 11 and a hydrofoil 8 on each side of the hull at a higher level than the planing foil. The midships hydrofoil 4 carries the main weight of the boat and the upper hydrofoils 8 add to the lifting effect of the planing foil 6 so that the hull is lifted more readily to its normal running position. The upper hydrofoils 8 are rigidly attached to planing foil 6 by struts 7 and to lateral projections 10 of the hull by connections 9. The angle of attack of the upper hydrofoils may advantageously exceed the angle of attack of the planing foil.
