Abstract
1,216,196. Ships' rudders. W. BROHL. 27 Dec., 1967 [29 Dec., 1966; 1 June, 1967], No. 58593/67. Heading B7V. A ship's rudder installation comprises a main rudder 4, a forward fin 3 and a rear fin 5, each pivotally mounted (via hinge 6) on the main rudder, and means (e.g. 7, 8, 9, 11, 12) interconnecting the fins and the main rudder such that on turning of the main rudder the fins turn to the same side of the main rudder and pivot in the forward direction. In the embodiment of Fig. 2 which is for a ship with twin rudders, the said interconnecting means for each rudder comprises members 7, 8, 16, 17 connected to rings 14, 15 around an eccentric disc 13. Each rudder may be mounted as in Fig. 3. The main rudder and fins may have transverse plates thereabove and/or below, e.g. the rudder and fins may have top plates 18 and 20, 21 respectively and the rudder a bottom plate 19 which extends over the fins.
