[Also in Division H2] The control pulses for a device such as a thyratron or a thyristor supplying a regulated output current or voltage are derived from a circuit including a peaking transformer having its primary winding connected to a full-wave rectifier and its secondary winding connected to a clamping circuit which converts the output from the transformer into a square waveform; the leading edge of the square waveform is differentiated to provide the control pulses, the phase of which is varied in dependence upon output variations by the action of a control amplifier connected in a feedback loop system. The input to the control amplifier is derived from a resistor monitoring output voltage or current, and the output from the amplifier is applied to a tertiary winding on the peaking transformer, which winding controls the width of the square wave and thus the phase of the control pulses. A second feedback loop may be connected in parallel with the control amplifier to improve the stability of the system.
