Abstract

1,027,391. Closures. A. S. L. OWEN. SMITH. Jan. 9, 1963 [Jan. 15, 1962], No. 1469/62. Heading B8T. A closure in the form of a skirted cap 1 has a rib 6 adapted to fit over an annular bead 4a of a bottle, and a locking ring 8 which is forced into a locking position below the plane of maximum diameter of the bead 4a. The locking ring may be attached to or formed integrally with a second ring (Fig. 1, not shown) to facilitate removal of the former, and the cap may be provided with at least one hook 14 (Fig. 4, not shown) under which a ring may be engaged to provide easier removal of the cap. The skirt may have a flange 7a (Fig. 3, not shown) provided with one or more slits to allow for expansion during attachment or removal of the cap. The locking ring may be applied manually or mechanically, either before or after the cap is forced on to the bottle. To prevent illicit tampering the locking ring may be provided with teeth. The cap may be strengthened by radial ribs on its inner surface, and/or may be provided with a sealing disc, or a plug member which engages within the bottle mouth.
