Abstract

Caprolactam is prepared by nitrosation of hexahydrobenzoic acid, its functional derivatives and cyclohexyl ketones, initially in the presence of oleum containing 23 to 60% of free SO3, whose molar ratio to the nitroation agent is between 0.4 and 1.2, the nitrosation being carried out continuously and at temperatures between 90 DEG and 100 DEG C. with a reaction time between 1 and 15 minutes.
