Abstract
1,026,054. Making electric components; welding by fusion. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 23, 1963 [May 4, 1962], No. 17274/62. Headings B3A and B3R. [Also in Divisions H1 and H2] In a vacuum electric device, e.g. a switch or surge diverter, having an evacuated envelope having a ferrous portion through which passes a copper or copper alloy conductor, a hermetic joint between the conductor and the ferrous portion is formed by argon arc welding. An evacuated switch, Fig. 1, not (shown), has a ceramic body 1 and fixed and moving copper electrodes 2, 3 brazed to copper supports 9, 11 Ferrous portions 13, 10 (e.g. 54% Fe, 29% Ni 17% Co) of the envelope are argon arc welded to the support 11 and to one end of a bellows 8, the other end of which is brazed or argon arc welded to the support 9.
