Abstract

1381955 Vacuum switches SIEMENS AG 13 April 1972 [13 April 1971] 17181/72 Heading H1N A vacuum switch comprises a pair of axially spaced relatively movable contact assemblies each of which comprises an annular arcing contact 5, (6) surrounding an eccentric main contact 1, (2) the arcing contact 5 (6) being electrically connected to the main contact 1 (2) by a contact carrier 7 (8) and a connecting member 9, (10). Each arcing contact 5 (6) has a discontinuity gasket 18 in its annular path, and each eccentric main contact 1 (2) provides a contriction in the gap between it and the arcing contact 5 (6) whose narrowest point 17 is situated an angle α from the adjacent side of the region joining the contact carrier 7 (8) to the arcing contact 5, (6), the angle α being between 0 and 30 degrees. The discontinuities 18 eccentric contacts 1 and 2 and the narrowest points 17 of the constrictions are axially aligned. An arc between the main contacts 1 and 2 is magnetically shifted to the arcing contacts 5, 6 and then magnetically rotated around the annular arcing paths. The slots 18 may be tangential to the region joining the contact carriers 7, 8 to the arcing contacts 5, 6 and extend perpendicularly or obliquely between the axially spaced end faces of the arcing contacts. A metal shield 11 prevents metal deposits on the insulating body 12 of the vacuum switch.
