Abstract

102,536. Johnston, A. G. Kent-. Feb. 4, 1916. Impact pulverizers; cracking nuts.-Relates to a nut-cracking machine of the type in which the nuts are struck by rotating beaters. The beaters i are arranged on rotating disks f, g and are preferably sloping on one face, the edges being spaced apart farther than the greater diameter of the nuts being cracked. Fig. 1 shows one form of apparatus in which the disks run on a stepped vertical shaft c and are provided with bevel-wheels d, e meshing with a wheel s on the driving-shaft o. The bevel-wheels are enclosed in a central casing. The nuts are fed from a hopper u through shoots v<1>, v<2> to between the beaters, and the cracked nuts fly outwards and are stopped by a loosely hanging screen. The feeding-devices may be arranged in various ways for horizontal and vertical machines. In a modified form, the beaters may be two parallel sets of radially-disposed arms projecting from a central boss.
