A vice comprises a fixed jaw 22 and a movable jaw 46, each jaw having a work engaging member 32, 50 loosely held against an arcuate surface on the jaw and each jaw being resiliently urged upwardly, so that, when a workpiece is clamped, the members 32, 50 tend to be forced downwardly. The movable jaw 46 is guided on the base 10 by flanges 64 and is moved by screws 6 mounted in a block 68 which can be mounted over any line of tapped holes 16.
