Abstract
1,024,466. Gravity-separation of liquids ; sheet filters. W. MOLL. Aug. 29, 1963 [Sept. 6, 1962], No. 34254/63. Heading BID. Etching emulsion is discharged from an inflow tank (beneath a neutralizing tank 4, Fig. 2), by a pump 10 to a stabilizing tank 2, whence it flows by gravity through a pipe 13, Fig. 3, to an oil-separating tank 3, being introduced below a baffle 16. Compressed air to assist separation may be introduced at 27. Oil collects in regions 21, 22, and flows via pipes 23, 24, 25 to a can 26. The main body of liquid flows, at 35, to neutralizing tank 4, Fig. 2, where it is stirred (37) with neutralizing agent (e.g. caustic soda solution) introduced at 41. Flow of neutralizer to, and hence the pH in, tank 4 are governed by a probe 40 and control 44. The liquid from tank 4 overflows at 46, 47 into one of a number of filter bags 50, Fig. 2, filtrate being discharged to a sewer at 52. Two groups of interconnected bags are depicted in Fig. 6 (not shown). An alternative filter device (Fig. 5, not shown) consists of an endless band of screen material which has upon it a portion of filter paper issuing from a supply roll, the band being moved, whenever the pool formed above the paper deepens on clogging, to draw a clean portion of paper from the supply roll.
