Abstract

A strippable waterproof wallpaper is made by bonding a ply of decorated waterproof paper throughout one surface to one surface of a ply or plies of paper of low plucking strength. A further ply of waterproof paper may be bonded to the other side of the paper of low plucking strength. The wallpaper may be produced as "twin furnished" paper on a long-wire machine, applying the layer of low plucking strength as a furnish on top of the first layer between the first and second suction boxes. Alternatively it may be made on a two-wire or three-wire machine or by a laminating process. The tear or plucking strength of the top layer may be increased by impregnation with a synthetic resin or synthetic rubber which bonds the layers together. Examples are: polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl acetate, polyacrylates, polytyrene, and styrene-butadiene and acrylonitrileutadiene rubbers.
