Abstract

Grates; ashes, collecting; trivets.-A front grate b is pivoted at its lower end so that it may be placed vertically, or may be inclined to enable the fireplace to be used as a barless grate. The grate is supported in its vertical position by snugs or projections c on the cheeks a, and is moved into and out of them by lifting the grate, the pivots e being fitted in elongated slots f to enable this to be done. Alternatively, the grate b may be supported by pivoted catches. With this grate is fitted a fixed inclined plate g, but preferably this plate, which serves to catch the ashes from the front of the fire, is similarly pivoted to the cheeks a, and may similarly be brought from the horizontal position, in which it is held by brackets k, into an inclined position, in which it is held by the engagement of its edge i with projections j. The plate g may also support cooking- utensils &c. The space beneath the lower edge of the plate g is enclosed by a plate with a hit-andmiss draught-regulator.
