The ashes are afterwards pushed backwards until they fall into the ash-pan F. An inclined plate E may be fitted to the back wall of the asb-pit to direct the fall of the ashes. According to the Provisional Specification, the apparatus is also designed for heating the air supply to the under side of the grate.
