Abstract

A cramp for securing planks 5 and 6 together comprises two rigid jaws constituted by angleplates of which the legs 1, 2 are longer than the legs 3, 4, the jaws being connected by a flexible cable 8 or metallic band having one end secured at 7 to the long leg 1 and tightening means comprising a rotatable member supported on the long leg 2 and adapted to be rotated by an arm 11. The drum 10 of a windlass is journalled at one end in a bore in the leg 2 and at the other end in a bore in a housing 9 secured to the leg 2, the lever 11 being secured to the pivot pin of the drum 10 which is journalled in the cover of the housing. For preventing rotation of the lever 11, a pin 13 slidably mounted in the lever is selectively engaged with any one of a circular row of holes provided in the housing. The pin is retained in the selected bore by the friction due to the cable tending to unwind. The friction is overcome by operating the arm 11 and thereby releasing the pin 13 which is urged to retract from the bore by a spring 15.
