Abstract

1314130 Protecting external threads on pipe ends GLOBAL MARINE Inc 29 Oct 1971 50308/71 Heading B8C The end of an externally threaded pipe is housed in a recess 14 in a socket member 12 retained in position by teeth 50 which engage the thread, the teeth 50 sliding over the thread as the member 12 is applied to the pipe end and being carried by an arcuate spring plate 32 so mounted on the member 12 as to allow the teeth to be disengaged from the thread for removal of the member 12. The teeth are formed on a portion 36 of the spring plate 32 which has an S-shaped portion 48 accessible through an aperture 28 in the member 12 to enable the portion 36 to be pulled away from the pipe. The other end of the plate 32 has a boss 38 received in a recess 44 in the member 12 and having a bore through which a removable bar 46 is passed to secure the plate 32 to the member 12. The member 12 may be of polyethylene or polypropylene. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 5), an arcuate spring plate (62) is fixed centrally thereof to a socket member 12 and carries teeth (66) at each end thereof.
