Abstract

1,021,672. Driving trailers. SCOTTORN Ltd. Sept. 4, 1963 [Oct. 5, 1962], No. 37803/62. Heading B7H. In a towing vehicle/trailer combination the trailer axle 2 is similar to the towing vehicle rear axle and is connected by propeller shaft 7 to a power-take-off on a gear-box 11 on the towing vehicle. The gear-box 11 is identical to the transfer gear-box 19, the power-take-off of which is connected to what is normally, the power-take-off output of gear-box 11. The input and one output of gear-box 11 are blanked off while the other output acts as a power-take-off and is connected to the trailer axle 2. Since the ratios of gear-boxes 11 and 19 are identical and the trailer axle and towing vehicle rear axle are the same the wheels travel at the same speed.
