Abstract

1,021,137. Dip-moulding rubber articles. RUBBER PRODUCTS DEVELOPMENT PROPRIETARY Ltd. Aug. 28, 1964 [Oct. 28, 1963], No. 35405/64. Heading B5A. [Also in Division A3] In a method of dip moulding, articles of natural and/or synthetic rubber are formed having wall sections of different thicknesses by applying coagulant to the entire article forming area of a former, allowing the coagulant to partially or fully dry, applying a relatively dilute coagulant to those areas to be of reduced thickness, allowing the coagulant to dry, and applying a latex to the coagulant coated area of the former. In a preferred embodiment, glove formers 10 on an intermittently operated conveyer 22 are halted in turn over a tank 36 containing concentrated coagulant, e.g. calcium nitrate, a tank 38 containing, e.g. water, or a mixture of water and sodium hydroxide which renders a coagulant of calcium nitrate ineffective, a tank 40 containing dilute coagulant, a latex tank 42, a number of leaching tanks 44 and a powder coating tank 46. The tanks are mounted on lifting devices 34 and the depth of liquid in each is controllable so that the formers may be immersed to the required depth at the various stations. Also provided is a vulcanizing oven 48 and the gloves are stripped from the formers at station 50. To ensure a complete covering of coagulant and also to provide a tapered portion between the cuff and the remainder of the glove, Fig. 4 (not shown), the depth of immersion H 3 in the dilute coagulant is such as to slightly exceed the depth of immersion H 2 in tank 38.
