Abstract

1,020,025. Spring clips; seal and trim strips. DRAFTEX Ltd. April 30, 1963 [Feb. 13, 1963], No. 5870/63. Headings E1J and E2B. A clip which is of substantially inverted U-shape in cross-section for incorporation into a sealing or trimming strip for a motor vehicle and which in use extends throughout the full length of the strip and which straddles and grips a mounting flange is produced from a metal blank, the blank being formed with spaced closed transverse slots 1 throughout its length leaving spaced ribs 2 and connecting portions 3 at or near the longitudinal marginal edges of the blank, the blank being bent transversely into substantially inverted U-shape and the longitudinal marginal edge portions of the blank bent into a position in which they form upwardly directed resilient limbs 6 situated within the main part of the clip which resilient limbs are intended to grip the flange. In the construction shown in Fig. 10 the clip has an elbow 20 which presses the sealing strip shown in contact with the flange but this elbow can be omitted if desired in which case the clip is symmetrical about its longitudinal axis. The sealing strip shown consists of a covering strip 8, and a rubber sealing portion section 12 stitched to the strip 8. The covering strip can be lined with cheaper material if desired and instead of stitching, adhesive can be used to secure the sealing section; the sealing section is omitted in a trimming strip. The longitudinal edges of the blank which in use grip the flange either through the strip or directly can be straight, castellated, wavy or of zig-zag formation. They can also have sharp points.
