Abstract

851,521. Draught excluders. BRIGHT, T. J. R. June 21, 1957 [March 23, 1956], No. 9177/56. Class 20(3) [Also in Group XXV] A draught excluding strip, Fig. 2, comprising a continuous clip 1 of substantially inverted U- shape in cross-section intended for application to a supporting flange 5 and capable of universal bending movement throughout its length, the clip having a fabric or like covering 9 and carrying a rubber or other comparatively soft but resilient sealing component 6, 7, is characterised in that one or both limbs of the U- shaped clip are formed with inwardly-pressed, sharp-pointed tangs 4 which perforate the covering material 9 to make frictional engagement with the flange 5 to hold the clip 1 frictionally in position thereon. In another embodiment (not shown) the effective and attachment portions 6, 7 are formed integrally of sponge rubber and the edge of the attachment portion 7 abuts the edge 10 of the covering material 9. In a further embodiment (Fig. 3) the inverted U-shaped part of the member 7 is omitted and the edge of the clip is received in a longitudinal slit 14 in a thickened upstanding part of the member 7 having serrations 15 engaging the flange 5. In a still further embodiment (not shown) the effective portion 6 is attached, e.g. by vulcanising to a U-shaped attachment portion which fits closely around the fabric-covered edge of the clip and contacts the supporting flange along the outer surface of its inner limb. The clip 1 is formed with transverse slots 2 co-operating on alternate sides with slits 3 where the tangs 4, which may be of different sizes, are pressed inwards.
