In an assembly of a sheet 18 of flexible material secured to a rod 19 with the aid of a fastener 10 in the form of a single strip of spring material having the major part of its length bowed to have a section which is the major arc of a circle and having at one end a pair of inwardly directed sharply pointed prongs 11, 12, the flexible material is lapped around the rod 19 so that one layer is substantially tangential to the rod and the fastener is sprung over the rod and material with the prongs biting into the other layer 17 of material and lying in the bight formed between the tangential layer and the rod.
