Abstract

681,678. Stud and socket fastenings. BRIGGS MANUFACTURING CO. April 24, 1951 [June 2, 1950], No. 9578/51. Class 44 A stud fastener, e.g. for securing a moulding strip 10, Fig. 3, to the apertured panel 12 of a motor vehicle body comprises a length of spring wire bent to form a base 15 and a projecting stud 14, the base engaging the infurned flanges 11 of the strip and the stud fastening in the aperture 13 in the panel, a pad 16 of rubber or the like being combined with the fastener to prevent entry of water &c. through the aperture 13. As shown in Fig. 4, the fastener comprises parallel limbs 15a bent back at 15b and connected by a reverse bend 15c. The free ends are bent outwardly to form the stud 14 the limbs of which are outwardly bowed at 14a to snap through the aperture. The pad 16 is threaded over the limbs of the stud and when applied to the panel 12, is compressed between the base 15 and the panel to seal the aperture 13.
