Abstract

457,575. Snap fasteners. BRIGGS MANUFACTURING CO., 11631, Mack Avenue, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A. Feb. 18, 1936, No. 4951. Convention date, July 29, 1935. [Class 44] A snap fastener (particularly described as securing a motor-car upholstery trim panel P to a support S, Fig. 2), formed from spring wire &c., bent to provide outwardly bowed limbs 13 to snap past the edges of an aperture 10 in the support and outwardly turned freeends 16 by which the fastener is mounted on the panel &c., is anchored to the panel by means allowing the fastener to swing from an inoperative position parallel to the panel, Fig. 3, to an operative position at right angles thereto, Figs. 2, 7, and also allowing limited sliding movement of the end 16 in all directions parallel to the panel. As described, anchoring is effected by a plate 18 with rectangular aperture 19 through which the fastener is passed so that the parts 16 rest in recesses 22 formed by bending up portions of the plate, the fastener being secured by a flexible disc 23 held by lugs 24. The plate 18 is secured to the panel by prongs 20 diagonally disposed at the corners. The parts are dimensioned so that the ends 16 have limited movement longitudinally and transversely with respect to plate 18, to allow the fastener to align itself with aperture 10. The fastener may be turned down as in Fig. 3, for convenience in stacking &c., and is held against accidental displacement from the operative position by flats formed on opposite faces of the parts 16 and resiliently engaged by disc 23 and walls of recesses 22.
