Gregoire, Rte. 3, Newport, Pa. 17074 Filed Oct. 4, 1967, Ser. No. 672,915 Int. Cl. F16b 1/00; A47h 1/10 U.S. Cl. 287189.35 4 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to anchor clips made of formed stiff sheet material having a substantially rectangular body portion with means formed therefrom for fixing it to a support member, and a head portion at one end thereof with a T-slot cut in it to form a pair of ears adapted for engagement over the opposite edges of a load member extending from said support member, said fixing means being adapted for attachment to said support member by actuation of said clip pivotally about its engagement over the edges of said load member to fix it to said support member.
The object of this invention is to provide a one-piece formed plate of stiff sheet material with ears that may be readily locked over the opposite edges of a structural member adjacent its support member and with means formed on it for attachment to the support member to fix the members against relative displacement.
Another object is to make said attachment means by stamping out pointed cars from said plate and turning them normally thereto for driving into a wooden support member.
Another object is to make said attachment means in a plate of resilient material by turning the edge portion of the plate opposite said ears to form a ridge for resiliently clipping over a flange edge on a support member.
Other and more specific objects will appear in the following detailed description of these'anchor clips, as illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
FIG. 1 is a side edge view of one form of the anchor clip applied to a wooden member supporting a metal panel,
FIG. 2 is an enlarged detail perspective view of this form of clip,
FIG. 3 is a side edge view of another form of anchor clip applied to a metal member supporting a metal panel,
FIG. 4 is an enlarged detail perspective view of this form of clip,
FIG. 5 is an enlarged sectional view of the metal panel shown in FIGS. 1 and 3, showing a portion of the clip,
FIG. 6 is a similar view of a metal panel having another form of ridge member formed therein, and the ear portion having correspondingly formed ears,
FIG. 7 is a perspective view similar to FIG. 2 of a modification, having ears formed as in FIG. 6, and
FIG. 8 is a perspective view similar to FIG. 4 of a modification having ears formed as in FIG. 6.
For fixing a structural member such as a metal panel 10 with a ridge 12 supported by a wooden post 14 to said post, an anchor clip 16 is used with its ears 18 engaged over the lobes at the base of the triangularly formed ridge 12, the pointed ears 22 which were stamped out of the body portion 24 and turned perpendicular thereto, being fixed in the wooden post 14. The ears 18 are bent in opposite directions out of the plane of the body portion 24 so as to receive the ridge 12 into the bottom of the T- slot between the ears before turning the clip to engage the ears over said lobes and then fixing it to the wooden post.
Obviously, for any other than a perpendicular relation between members, the ears may be bent accordingly.
As shown in FIG. 3, another form of clip 30 having a body portion 24 is applied to the ridge 12 of a metal panel 10 supported on a metal beam structure 26 which has a flange 28 over which the turned ridge 32 at the lower edge of the clip is sprung to anchor the panel 10 to its supporting beam 26. Clip 30 is obviously made of a material having some resiliency to facilitate springing the ridge 32 over the fiange 28.
The cars 18 may be shaped to accommodate other shaped shoulders of flanged structures, which may be locked to their supporting members by the use of these anchor clips. For example, cars 18' shown in FIGS. 6, 7 and 8 are angularly recessed to accommodate the sides of the triangular ridge 34.
The plate or sheet material forming the clip may be made in skeleton form from a stiff wire to conform to the outline of the essential parts of the body and head portions of these clips.
Many other obvious modifications of the ears and attachment means comprising these clips may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the present invention.
What is claimed is:
1. A one-piece anchor clip comprising:
a body portion of sheet material having means formed therein for substantially rigid attachment to a supporting member, and
a head portion including a planar base section and having a pair of planar ears joined to said base section with inturned, opposed ends thereon being spaced apart for mounting over the opposite edges of a double-edged base structure supported by said member,
said ears being spread apart by being bent outwardly from their bases in opposite directions out of the plane of said base section to open the spacing between their unturned ends so as to facilitate their mounting over the edge portions of said structure by receiving said edges through said spacing between their ends before turning said clip to bring them freely over said edge portions.
. A one-piece anchor clip comprising:
a formed sheet strip of stifl? material having a body portion with means formed therein for fixing it to a support member and a planar head portion with a T-slot cut-out therein, the stern of the T opening outwardly of the free end of said head portion to form a pair of opposed planar ears with inwardly turned undercut ends,
said ears in their entirety extending out of the plane of said head to opposite sides thereof sufiiciently to facilitate receiving the edge portions of a doubleedged base of a structure mounted on said support,
said clip being adapted to be freely turned substantially after receiving said base edge portions into the top of the T-slot to engage said ear ends over said edge portions before fixing the clip to said support member so as to hold the structure firmly clipped to said support member.
3. An anchor clip as defined in claim 2,
at least one pointed ear stamped out of said body portion extending normally therefrom to form said attachment means to a wooden support member.
4. An anchor clip as defined in claim 2,
said stiff material being resilient and said body portion 3 4- having a turned ridge in the edge portion opposite 2,162,497 6/1939 Barrett 287-18935 the head portion for springing over a flange edge on 2,586,327 2/ 1952 Haertel 287-18935 the support member, forming said attachment means. 2,605,624 8/ 1952 Halladay 248-227 1,846,010 2/1932 \VOOdingS et a1. 238-330 References Cited UNITED STATES 5 CARL W.
