Abstract

<PICT:1020014/C4-C5/1> The methane-containing gas produced by the process of the parent Specification is passed with steam, at a temperature sufficient to convert methane by reaction with steam into carbon monoxide and hydrogen, in turbulent flow through the passage 5 between an externally heated tube 1 and a body 2 covered with a layer of catalyst 3. In a modification the external surface of the body 2 may be corrugated and the product gases are withdrawn through its interior.
