Abstract
1,020,006. Preventing corrosion and access of moisture. NORDDEUTSCHE KABELWERKE A.G. Nov. 6, 1962 [Nov. 9, 1961], No. 41953/62. Heading H2E. The thermoplastic sheathing 2 of a cable 1 is sealed to a metal sleeve 4 placed over the cable end by means of a threaded bush 11, located over the sleeve 4, and a nut 6 which screws into the bush and axially compresses the end of the sheathing, softened by heat, against the sleeve 4. The latter has an end flange 15 with axial perforations and a transverse groove into which the softened polyethylene is forced by a grooved pressure disc 10 interposed between the nut 6 and the sheathing 2. The sleeve 4 and bush 11 are heated to about 120‹ to 150‹ C. and these members and nut 6 are preferably made of brass. A metal casing is soldered to the sleeve 4 by a solder wiped joint 13, a poor thermally-conducting tube 3 being provided under sleeve 4 to prevent sheathing damage, as described in Specification 939,989.
