Abstract
Killed mild steel containing 0.05-0.12% of aluminium is hot rolled, cooled to below 650 DEG C. to retain nitrides in solution, and coiled. It is then cold-rolled, and annealed by heating to a temperature in the range 600-950 DEG C. in 0.5-180 minutes followed by holding at that temperature for at least 0.5 minute. Annealing may be carried out as a continuous process, the strip then passing directly to a galvanizing bath without intermediate cooling. The steel may contain 0.03-0.1% of carbon and 0.3-0.45% of manganese.
