Abstract

A method for producing steel strip or sheet having a strength of at least 50,000 p.s.i. comprises providing a blank of the following composition: .C.0.1-0.2% .Mn.0.4-0.6% .N.0.008-0.015% .P.up to 0.04% max .S.up to 0.05% max .Si.up to 0.1% max the balance being iron apart from any residual impurities, hot rolling the blank to form a strip or sheet the finishing temperature being kept above 1520 DEG F., rapidly cooling the strip to below 1050 DEG F. and then coiling the cooled strip or sheet. The cooling is preferably accomplished by spraying the sheet or strip with water.
