A mower adapted to be mounted on the three point linkage of a tractor has three mowing bars 1-3 (Fig. 1, not shown) the outer two of which are substantially parallel to the middle bar and pivotable relative to the middle bar about substantially vertical axis between operative and inoperative positions. The three mowing bars have reciprocable knives driven from the tractor p.t.o. shaft. Rocker arms 68, 72 pivotally mounted on the frame have lugs 69, 73 engaging an elliptical groove in a disc 62 which is rotated by a shaft 58 connected to the p.t.o. shaft of the tractor. The two arms effect drive of the knives of the mowing bars 1 and 3 by way of connecting rods 116, connecting members 118 pivotable about axis 110, coupling rods 105 and rockable arms 96 (Figs. 1 and 5, not shown). The rocker arm 68 includes a housing 70 (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) which engages a projection 43 on an arm 55 which is rockable about a shaft 38 to reciprocate the knife of mowing bar 2. The mowing bars 1, 3 are connected to frame 5 by means of parallel bars 80 which are pivotable about axes 79 to the position shown in broken lines, and each mowing bar pivots about a vertical shaft 74 and is locked either in its operative or inoperative position by a spring urged bolt 128 engaging holes 129 in a quadrant 125 (Fig. 1, not shown). When the mowing bar 1 is moved to its inoperative position, i.e. through 90 degrees, reciprocation of the knife bar is stopped since the coupling rod 105 will be at approximately 90 degrees to connecting rod 116 (Fig. 7, not shown). Upon raising the mower an upper link 122 (Fig. 4, not shown) which is connected to the tractor will cause the mowing bars 1, 3 to be raised by means of cables 120. Pivoting of the mowing bar 2 will also take place about axie 27, and the projection 43 will be disengaged from the housing 71. During operation of the mower the tractor is driven backwards.
