Abstract
1,221,117. Mowing unit. DEERE & CO. 13 May, 1968 [13 May, 1967], No. 22574/68. Heading A1F. A side mowing unit carried and driven by a tractor and arranged to swing back against the action of a spring, is characterized in that the swing axis is positioned between a driving pulley on the tractor and a driven pulley on the unit so that, upon yielding to an obstacle, the unit is immediately disconnected from a latch device and from the drive. Referring to Fig. 1, the cutter (not shown) extends to the left and is pivotable between the lugs 6, 8 of a yoke 2. A pin 20, on which the yoke is pivoted, terminates in a vertical tube 36 which is supported between the arms 40, 42 of a frame 1 fixed to the tractor (not shown). A screw 44 secures the tube 36 to a swivel pin 38 received in the arms 40, 42 thereby providing a swivel axis that is disposed between a driven pulley 10 and a driving pulley (not shown) on the tractor. Extending from tube 36 is a rocking lever 48 pivotally carrying a link 50 of the latch device 46 held between the jaws 60, 62 of the frame 1. The link 50 is slotted to receive a bolt 74, so that, on swinging back, the unit does not pull the club-portion 56 of the link completely from the jaws. In a modification the swivel pin (38), Fig. 4 not shown), is inclined to the vertical so that when the unit swings back an outer shoe of the unit is relieved of load. In this arrangement the rocking lever (48) carries a universal joint to enable a hooked portion of the member 56 to engage the jaws on returning to the working position thereby eliminating the action of the spring.
