Abstract
1,019,190. Machine tool details; grinding. LANDIS-GENDRON S.A. May 19, 1964 [May 27, 1963], No. 20587/64. Headings B3B, B3D and B3K. [Also in Divisions F1 and G3] In means for effecting axial reciprocation of a rotating machine-tool shaft 1 carrying a grinder, polisher, milling cutter or the like, the shaft is provided with an enlarged section the opposed faces 9 and 24 of which are subject to liquid or gas pressure in chambers 8 and 18, 21 respectively of bearing blocks 2 and 3. The fluid pressure is supplied from a line 16 and exhausted through gaps provided between the shaft and bearings 2 and 3, between faces 25, 26 and 13, 14, respectively. The gap between surfaces 25 and 26 increases as the shaft moves towards the right. Reciprocation of the shaft is effected by a device 22 which produces cyclically varying pressure in chamber 21, calibrated orifice nozzles 17 and 19 being provided in the lines leading to chambers 8 and 18. The device 22 comprises, Fig. 4 (not shown), a disc member 36 having an inclined face 37 rotatable by a variable-speed motor, e.g. an electric motor, and a member 49 provided with an eccentric nozzle 48. The member 49 is angularly adjustable to vary the eccentricity of the nozzle with respect to the axis of the member 36 and by this means the amplitude of the pressure variations. In a further embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the chamber 21 is connected to exhaust and receives pressure fluid from chamber 18. The shaft is rotated by motor means connected to an end of the shaft beyond the bearings 2, 3 or an intermediate section between the bearings.
