914,981. Copy-milling; copy-turning. MASCHINENFABRIK DIEDESHEIM G.m.b.H. Sept. 20, 1961 [Sept. 22, 1960], No. 33627/61. Class 83 (3). [Also in Group XXIII] A machine tool for turning, grinding or milling a trochoidal face 10 on a rotating workpiece W, comprises a rotating workholder mounted on an arm g oscillated by a shaft 19 which also rotates the work, the shaft passing through the machining point and being parallel to the work axis 18, and the shaft being connected to a uniformly rotating shaft 30 by a coupling 34, 32, 33 which varies the angular velocity of the work. The curve of the face 10 is the trace of a point P on a wheel b rolling on a circle c having twice the diameter. The cutter head 12 is adjustable for depth of feed on a slideway 13. The radius of curvature of the trochoid machined always passes through the machining point parallel to the slideway 13, so that tool and work are always tangential. The coupling 32-34 prevents the cutting speed from varying between extreme limits, and may be replaced by a cam and toggle mechanism.
