Abstract

1355735 Abrading; lubricating tools ERNST WINTER & SOHN 7 Aug 1972 [9 Aug 1971] 36705/72 Headings B3D and B3K [Also in Division B5] An arrangement for dry lubrication of rotating chip-removing tools, such as grinding wheels, circular saws, and milling tools, comprises a dry lubricating body 6, Fig. 1, which is provided with a drive which rotates the body at a slower speed than the tool and displaces the body towards the working surface of the tool. The body may contain graphite, molybdenum sulphide or hexagonal boron nitride and be formed in an annular shape and carried by a shaft 7 rotated at, say, 12 revolutions per hour as it is fed in the direction of arrow 8 into the annular surface 4 of a grinding wheel 1 rotated at 4,000 revolutions per minute. A feeler 10 lies in a plane behind the surface 4 of the grinding wheel so that the lubricating agent is removed in a spiral path from the body 6. The axis of the body 6 may be parallel or slightly inclined to the axis of the grinding wheel and the body may be of annular or disc form. The body may be fed radially into the grinding wheel particularly if the grinding wheel is profiled. The body 6, Fig. 6, may be mounted on a carrier 14 on a shaft 7 slidable in a tube 15 provided with slots 17, 18 engaged by a pin 19 extending through the shaft. A spring 16 bears on a shoulder 20 on the tube and the pin 19 to urge the body in the direction of the arrow 31 against the grinding wheel 1. The sleeve 15 is connected to an extension 22 having bores 24 engaged by a spring-pressed ball 28 in a member 25 on the driving shaft 21 of the motor M, the ball providing a slip coupling. The feeler 10 is adjustable by a screw 30. In another embodiment, the body 6, Fig. 7, is in the form of a disc carried by a shaft 7 having a threaded spindle 32 which engages the threads of spring pressed block 33 and is rotatable through a slip coupling by the motor M. The block 33 can be retracted against a spring 36 to permit the spindle 32 and shaft 7 to be manually adjusted.
