Abstract
1,019,053. Loom jacquards. V. WITTENDAL. April 1,1964 [April 5,1963], No. 13437/64. Heading D1E. A double lift open shed jacquard has main needles A having downturned ends D situated between two sets of presser bars P, T which reciprocate in unison. Each main needle has a pair of projections engageable with the outer sides of the legs of a two-legged hook C so that when the associated reading needle G drops into a hole in the pattern card, the end D of the main needle remains in the path of presser bars P, T and is moved to the right (on odd-numbered picks) or to the left (on even-numbered picks), thereby flexing the left or right leg of the hook into the path of the griffe M1 or M2 which is rising at that time. As shown at C3, when a hook is lifted by a griffe, continued pressure by the main needle when the hook has reached its top position causes the hook to swing about its point of suspension on the griffe so that an outwardly-facing nose at its lower end comes to rest on a fixed locking bar R to retain the hook in the open shed position. When the reading needle G subsequently encounters a blank on a pattern card and therefore lifts the end D of the main needle clear of the presser bars P, T, the next griffe to rise engages the hook at the top of its stroke and lifts it slightly to disengage ,it from the locking bar R, whereupon the hook resumes its vertical attitude and can pass down between the bars R. To enable the griffes to engage the hooks in these circumstances even though neither leg is being flexed by the main needle, fixed deflectors V are provided to squeeze the legs inwards at the top of their travel. The fixed locking bars R and the co-operating noses on the hooks may be omitted if a movable locking grid is provided to hold the hooks in the open shed position by engaging their top noses. Instead of the top noses being inwardly directed as shown, they may be outwardly directed, in which case the ends D of the main needles are turned upwards.
