Abstract

1,018,295. Wrapping-machines. ROSE BROS. (GAINSBOROUGH) Ltd. Feb. 4, 1963 [Feb. 24, 1962], No. 7306/62. Heading B8C. In a wrapping machine, articles 11 are moved by the elements 16 of a conveyer, to engage a succession of double layer wrappers 17, 18 fed transversely to the path of the articles, each article and its wrapper being forwarded by the conveyer into a folding channel 22, to form an open-ended pouch which encloses the forward, upper, lower and side faces of the article and projects at its open end beyond the rear face, the layer 18 of a heat sealable material being of greater width than layer 17 and prior to folding, the outer layer 18 is temporarily gripped between members 26, 27 at both sides to move the layer 18 relative to layer 17 by an amount 15 thus allowing the end portions of layer 18 to overlap, on folding, and to be subsequently heat-sealed together. The wrapper layers are fed by a driven roller and severed by a device 21, Fig. 6, not shown. The gripping members 26 are swung inwards of channel 22 to be between layers 17, 18 and members 27 on arms 41 rotate downwards on to layer 18, both members being under the control of cams and are movable in timed relationship with the conveyer.
