Abstract

1402962 Packaging articles ROTTNEROS AB 13 Feb 1973 [17 Feb 1972] 6880/73 Heading B8C [Also in Division B5] Heat sealable tubular foil material 2 which is sealed at its ends 4, 5 is provided at one end with a handle means portion 11 including grip holes 12 cut out of the material in the vicinity of the corners of the material and extending obliquely with respect to end and side edges of the handle means portion defined by partial, interrupted welds 5, 6 and 7, the weld interruptions facilitating the escape of air trapped in the package. The material is used in a packaging machine 15, Figs. 2-4 (not shown), in which the material is fed from a supply roll 17 to an upwardly open compartment 16 having an aperture 27 through which articles to be packaged are fed manually into an open end of the material which is retained by grippers 31 on a pair of carriages 30, having welding jaws 32 and mounted for movement away from and towards each other on or vertically movable frame 38. A vertically movable table 24 carries a pair of carriages 33 each provided with a welding jaw 34. One carriage also carries a rotary knife 35 which co-operates with a groove 36 in the other carriage. Both jaws 32, 34 are formed with spaced welding surfaces 39 and heating elements 40 and the jaws 32 are provided with punch means 41 for forming the grip holes 12. In operation, the tubular material moves through an aperture 23 on the table 24 as the latter moves upwardly and as the frame 28 moves downwardly. During this time carriages 30 move towards one another to allow grippers 31 to grip the free end of the tube and to open the mouth thereof as the carriages 30 return to their original position. The frame then moves towards the aperture 27, articles are introduced into the tube, the table 24 is lowered and the carriages 30 and 33 move towards one another to produce interrupted linear welds 5, 6, 7 and 4, to punch holes 12 and to sever the package from the tubular material. The package is pushed out of the machine by means 37 over rollers 38.
