Abstract

1,017,994. Forging presses. DAVY & UNITED ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Nov. 8, 1962 [Nov. 8, 1961], No. 39970/61. Heading B3H. A forging press has means 21, 22 for indicating any eccentric loading e by measuring the relative tilt of the fixed and moving parts 13, 16, after a predetermined load has been reached. The press has a fixed bed 13 through which slides columns 14, 15 connecting upper and lower crossheads 16, 16A actuated by hydraulic rams such as 19. Alternatively the press may have a stationary frame and a movable crosshead. Secured between the bed and lower crosshead 16A, are pulse generators 21, 22, Fig. 2, which emit pulses responsive to up and down movements of the crosshead, to gates 25A, 25B, Fig. 2 (not shown), controlled by a gate control means 28. When a predetermined hydraulic forging pressure is reached a pressure transducer 26 triggers the gate control means 28 which admits the pulses to summation units 31A, 31B feeding a difference counter 32 whose output is applied to an indicating and alarm circuit 33 and may also be used to reverse the press.
