Abstract
1,017,015. Rotary-piston machines. N. K. TCHEN. March 25, 1964 [April 26, 1963], No. 12508/64. Heading F1F. A reversible rotary-piston machine of the hinged abutment type, comprises a cylinder 1, Fig. 3 (not shown) having an inlet duct 6 flanked by outlet ducts 8, 9 alternatively useable depending on the positioning of a cock 13 and the rotational direction of a concentrically mounted rotor 2 which carries a piston blade 4 lightly touching or passing with slight clearance over the cylinder inner surface. Hinged abutments 18, 19 retractable into pockets in the cylinder are fitted between the inlet duct and each outlet duct. Depending on rota rotation, one abutment is held in its retracted position whilst the other engages the rotor surface, being raised by cam just prior, during and just after the piston blade 4 passes it. In another embodiment the abutments 18, 19 are replaced by a two-armed rocker abutment 11 Fig. 2 (not shown) fixed on a rod 12 oscillatable by an adjustable cam follower 17, Fig. 1 (not shown) which cooperates with a cam 14 fixed to the rotor shaft 3 to control alternative inlet ducts 6, 7. A cock 10 determines which of the inlet ducts is supplied with fluid. The machine can operate as a pump, compressor or vacuum pump and two machines with a combustion chamber therebetween as an I.C. engine.
