Abstract
Nitrile perchlorate, NO2ClO4, is prepared by reacting NO or NO2 (2 parts by volume), chlorine dioxide (2 parts' and ozone (at least 6 parts and preferably at least 12) as ozonized oxygen. The ClO2 and NO or NO2 may be generated chemically or by electrical discharges, e.g. heavy current glow discharges, and are then immediately introduced, at 0.005-0.1 litres/hr., into the bottom of the reaction vessel. Oxygen containing 4-12% ozone is produced in an ozonizer operating at 6-10 kv., and introduced at 8-20 litres/hr. The reaction is carried out at room temperature, and the product forms as a white film in the vessel.
